Whether working with seasoned actors, college or graduate students, or teenagers, Jason brings experience, rigor, and a strong understanding of theatrical craft that yields results.

At NYU/Tisch School the Arts’ Department of Dramatic Writing, Jason has worked with graduate playwrights, developing new work in weekly lab sessions and directing original student plays.  Jason served two seasons on the workshop staff at Williamstown Theatre Festival Workshop, where he taught daily classes to approximately 70 apprentices.  In addition to coaching contemporary scenes, he worked in tandem with the voice instructor on Shakespeare scenes, and he also lead students to create original solo performances. He recently directed As You Like It with BFA students at Long Island University (CW Post Campus).  At Columbia University’s Summer High School Program, he joined the teaching team for “Theatrical Collaboration” and guided students to write, direct, and perform their original plays. He was a mentor for the Victory Project, a New York-wide response to the events of 9/11, conducting workshops with students at Beacon High School and then directing a short play based on these sessions.  At Bay Shore High School, Jason was an artist-in-residence, working with English department faculty and creating two original pieces written and performed by students.

Jason is a co-founder of The Theatre Askew Youth Performance Experience (TAYPE), which empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth and their allies to develop their unique theatrical voices.  Through TAYPE he has worked with the youth community at the Hetrick Martin Institute, and the program is currently working with the community of the Ali Forney Center.  He directed TAYPE’s co-production (with viBe Theatre Experience) of Thirsty, an original solo piece by 19 year-old Genna Miller, performed in the 2006 TerraNOVA Solo Arts Festival.
